The XYSCO Sickle Cell Foundation is excited to announce a new partnership with local hospitals and clinics across Ghana to provide free sickle cell screenings. This initiative aims to raise awareness, encourage early detection, and help individuals make informed health decisions about their genotype.
Sickle cell disease is a hereditary blood disorder that affects millions worldwide, and early diagnosis can help prevent complications, reduce hospital visits, and improve the quality of life for those at risk. By knowing your sickle cell status, you can take proactive steps toward better health and make informed decisions regarding future family planning.
Why Is This Initiative Important?
Many people are unaware of their sickle cell genotype, which can lead to unexpected health complications or high-risk pregnancies if two carriers (AS) unknowingly conceive. By providing free and accessible testing, this initiative ensures that individuals and families have the necessary information to make well-informed choices about their health and future.
What the Free Screening Includes:
✔️ Hemoglobin Electrophoresis Test – To determine your sickle cell status (AA, AS, SS, SC, etc.).
✔️ Confidential & Professional Genetic Counseling – Experts will explain your results and guide you on what they mean for your health and family planning.
